Home made palette

I wanted a palette which was easy to clean and mostly to make it easier when mixing skin tones. I made my own palette out of a sheet of glass and a piece of wood. Using a strengthened glass shelf and a cheap wooden shelf from B & Q. Both need to be at least 10" wide to be useful and more or less the same size though a bit of overhang wouldn' bother me. I painted the wood with acrylic to hide the wood grain to a medium tone. I placed the glass over the top and held it in place with thin strips of double sided carpet tape in four places. The whole thing took about 15 minutes to make and cost about £15.

Here is a picture of the finished palette, showing plenty of room to mix colours.

portraits

Below are a selection of my portrait paintings. All are painted with Artist quality oil paint on stretched canvas. I have found the pro mix colours a very useful way to learn about value and colour mixing for flesh tones in portraiture.
